How do you know when is the perfect time for a skater to turn pro? For starters, the skater has to completed such tasks as nailing a few video clips, covering a few articles in magazines and blogs, traveled with a few tours, made some shop appearances, and earned their stripes with a few contest winnings. Once that skater has done so, the skateboard industry would be sure to have a demand and desire for a few products with his name on it.

If you didn’t get the chance to stop by at Huf’s booth this year at the Agenda Tradeshow then you missed out on a lot. Huf is just plain dope, they have a certain “#$%& it” attitude and it definitely shows through their pieces and their marketing scheme. To justify this statement take their plant life collection as an example, their all over weed print screams rebellion and goes against the grain. In the recent years marijuana has been decriminalized in a number of states including recreational and medical use, but thats not the case for the majority of the country and its citizens. Marijuana has been labeled as a drug in the past and its reputation hasn’t been one that appears to be glamorous, which leads Huf to portraying the bad boy image with its rebellious attitude.
Huf decided to pay homage to Los Angeles with a swap meet inspired booth at the Agenda Tradeshow after a bodega themed booth last year. The swap meet included a Martial Arts front, a Jewelry store, and a Gold Grill Dental booth that included a number of products like nun-chucks, ninja stars, du-rags, condoms, pendants, and Gold grill pictures. (Lol) But the main feature and highlight of the booth was the HUF embroidery machine, where they gave customers the opportunity to get custom embroidery through out the show.

If you’re familiar with the JFK Plaza, then you’re no stranger to the infamous name of LOVE Park. It was designed by the late Edmund Bacon and Vincent Kling with a lot of attention focused on the style of modernism with sleek stone benches, raised planter beds, along with smooth pavement surfacing the area. The success behind the plaza for pedestrians is arguable, but the terrain is perfect for skaters and their needs of a smooth surface and ledges along with makeshift ramps made from the concrete tiles that you could maneuver.
In the early nineties skaters started recording each other at LOVE Park and those videos eventually made their way to California, the motherland of the skating domain. LOVE Park then became a skating landmark as a result from those videos. The growth of the skateboarding industry also led to the popularity boost of LOVE PARK as well. By the end of 2000, an abundance of professionals moved to Philadelphia just to skate LOVE whenever they felt like it.
LOVE Park became a landmark for skateboarding, yet skateboarding was never declared a legal thing to do in the vicinity. As a matter of fact, the Police there will chase away skaters, issue them tickets, and even take away their boards. As the city tried to renovate and improve the area for middle class taste they put the park on a closer watch to prevent skaters from “misusing” the park for other purposes.
As a result from the popularity of the newly formed skatepark, the city revealed that they would contribute a $1 Million dollars to the redesign of the park to prevent skaters from using the park. DC shoes actually tried to match the city’s Million to keep the park how it was and to renovate it, but the city refused and renovated the redeveloped the park a couple of years later in 2002.
The city replaced the slabs of granite that were once ideal for grinding with wood benches that may look like they belong in another time era. The renovation disturbed more people than just the skaters, it also enraged the late Edmund Bacon, one of the park’s designers. He was so enthralled with passion that these skaters found a new way to find use of the area he developed, that at the elderly late of 92 he decided to skate in LOVE Park in the heat of the debate about the renovation.
If you never had the chance to skate at LOVE, or if you don’t skate in general but what like the idea to, you can shred at LOVE through the virtual world in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 that was first video game to feature LOVE Park in a game.
Keith Hufnagel is to blame for the ever ascending brand HUF. Its taking the streets by storm and will continue to thrive under any circumstances. Keith grew up in New York with skateboarding as his passion and first love. He then moved to San Francisco to pursue his passion in skateboarding. During his stay in Sf, he wanted an alternative to clothing in which he would be wearing.
As a result he opened up his first store in August 2002 as a little storefront providing the areas most popular brands and lines out at the time. During the process, he started HUF which ultimately led to him focusing solely on that alone. HUF became one of the faster growing and recognized street brands out at this time.
He combined the differences and bridged the gaps of street wear and the skateboarding community. As of now HUF offers and produces top notch high quality merchandise right out of their Downtown Los Angeles headquarters.
