What happens when two powerhouse companies come together for one common cause? It can be made out to be the next best thing, or it can turn out to be just a good idea. Well in this case, Girl and Sanrio served themselves and collectors justice. They have combined forces by tying skateboard culture along with the Hello Kitty franchise.
Not only did the break the boundaries and barriers of skateboarding, but they did in a way that separates the bias of the sport. It all started with the 35th anniversary of Hello Kitty and Mike Carroll, which then led to a complete series of Sanrio characters that are paired up with the likes of the Girl riders. These decks have made their mark already in the industry with a fine impression on the normal bonds of skateboarding.
They’ve broken the mold of skater behavior with a collaboration that speaks of something totally opposite of Skulls and whatnot. Collectors its time to stock up, with such a limited amount of these decks along with collaboration itself, it’d be crazy not to get your hands on these before they’re all gone. While you’re at it, check out our very own collection of the decks right here at Stix Ride Shop.
The Deadly Skateboarding Sins. If you aren’t familiar with these crimes, then its time to get acquainted. Either that or let the real skaters be the judge. True skateboarders know these wrongdoings by heart, and will continually call out any individual accused of these charges.
The first on the agenda would be the Vain skater. Ironically theres no such thing for real skaters anyway, but to sum it up theres no reason to worry about your outfit and how dirty it may get. If you rip and shred you know how dingy, scuffed, and battered your possessions become. Leave the nail polish at home if you don’t plan on getting filthy.
Secondly, theres no reason to get mad and break your board. It wasn’t your board’s fault that busted your chops, it was you. Put the time and effort into your technic and it should eventually pay off. Other than that, breaking your board will leave you on foot and mad again for the next few weeks until you waste your money and buy another one… Right?
Thirdly, through luck or chance you happen to have access to a sick skating spot such as a ramp or empty pool, yet nobody has your permission to use it. Instead of providing a haven, you abuse your power like a sprinkled donut eating cop at a traffic stop. Either that or everyone looks at you like that one kid in elementary that wouldn’t let anyone play with his toys. Remember sharing is caring.
Now on to the next point, living in this day in age, we have grown accustomed to technology and laziness. Whether playing your PS3, watching tv, surfing the web, or browsing through netflix, it almost certainly hasn’t benefited you except for curing your boredom. Aside from the norm, some skaters might watch the same video over and over, but if you aren’t actually picking your board up and attempting the trick, then you might as well play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
At last, we have came to a conclusion of these atrocities, with one more to linger in your futile mind. When you smell the stench and hear the flattery and adornment of random douches around you, its time to make some moves. Not a nose slide, but actual moves into getting you past the local celebrity phase and into a legitimate situation regarding your skills. But if you’re fine with getting nowhere, do just that, no one else is going to stop you.
Fourstar has came a long way since their start of fifteen years. Eric Koston and Guy Mariano started out as a couple of great skaters that would eventually found Fourstar. When they began they started with pieces they were familiar with such as sports jerseys and cargo shorts. In due time they would evolve as a clothing line and commit to supplying us with some of the freshest skate wear available.
It all started in 96 when they were unsponsored, tacky, and wearing clothes that had absolutely nothing to do with themselves and skating. Clothing brands such as Polo and Tommy Hilfiger Thats when the thought occurred to them to start their own line, a brand that they can represent and stand by fully for themselves and skaters everywhere.
Now Fourstar didn’t come all this way with just Eric and Guy themselves, they recruited arguably one of the best skate crews in history. A few names to mention would be Rick Howard Sean Malto, and Max Schaaf to say the least. They all brought about an edge and talent to the overall outcome of the team.
Look for great things out of these guys in the years to come, more is definitely on its way. While you’re hear, make sure you check our Fourstar selection right here at www.stixrideshop.com
When family comes together to start a business, it can be scary to say the least. But not scarier then what pro skater Vince Capaldi had to face a few years back. Vince was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing’s Sarcoma. He wasn’t even 21 yet. After four rounds of chemo-therapy and 25 radiation treatments, he had to have surgery to save his arm. His humerous bone eventually got replaced with a metal prosthetic called a Colbalt Chrome. He’s back skating again and him (and brother Mike Mo started a company called Glassy and it’s blowing up.
These price point shades come in all different styles and are priced very comfortably at around $15. That’s a price perfect for these times of recession and the gas prices where they’re at. They have a team that can’t be reckoned with as well.
Mike is one of the most respected skaters in this industry and it seems like the company has already out-grown themselves. It started in their home. That’s where it will remain for now. But it a matter of time before a bigger distribution jumps on the Glassy ranks.
In the meantime we with both brother the best of luck and Vince a lifetime of good health! Here’s to you bud!
