Obey was inspired and founded on the arts and blueprints of ideas from Shepard Fairey. It all started with a sick sticker he created in 1989 at the Rhode Island School of Design that led to this evolution of art and ideas. The Obey campaign was influenced by not just Rock and skateboarding, but from politics and everyday marketing as well. It embarks on the mission of self empowerment, to take off the blinders that society is leading us by and to see way beyond what propaganda wants us to see and believe. It was created in 2001 as an expansion of his art and work. Along with his views and beliefs, he used clothing as a means of communication by broadcasting his ideas with the line and spreading them throughout the world. The line is heavily influenced by military design, everyday street wear, as well as culture development. Working alongside designers Mike Ternosky and Erin Wignall, he aims to deliver designs that embody his beliefs, ideas, and views.
