Vans As one of the most recognized and iconic brands in the nation as well as worldwide, the Vans empire has undoubtedly reigned supreme. It all started in 1966 by brothers Paul Van Doren, James Van Doren, and three other associates, with their classic shoe now commonly known as the “Authentic” that led to their success. Interestingly enough, the Authentics were made on the first day of business, and it was also the first pair of shoes sold out of their store on the same day. Vans thrived during the 1970′s and by the end of it they had 70 stores in california alone, as well dealers nationwide and internationally. As 1980 came around, Paul Van Doren began to take a step back and his involvement in the company declined. Around the same time, Vans began to create shoes for different sports including wake boarding, motor cross, and surfing, to try and compete with other businesses. In their effort to compete, Vans had soaked up all their resources on those other additions even though their core shoes were doing really well. As an effect Vans filed for bankruptcy  in 1983, then three years later they payed off all of their debt and were back in business. A couple years later in 1988 the original Vans owner sold the company to a banking firm. Vans has been sold quite a few times, the last time was about $396 Million, with Forbes Magazine stating they’re one of “America’s Best Small Companies”. Vans has been behind pro skaters such as Geoff Rowley and Tony Trujillo, as well as Warped Tour Music Festival since 1995.It has been on the scene since 1966, and to this day they are still on top, making for a truly remarkable company outlasting many of its predecessors and competitors. It is a staple for classic skateboarding shoes as well as the industry in a whole. The words “Classic” and “Authentic” is the best way you can describe this company, and not only that they’re shoes are named after both of those words.
